Grand Canyon Skywalk Travel Guide

Grand Canyon Skywalk

The Grand Canyon Skywalk and other West Rim activities are located on the Hualapai Indian Reservation in the Western Grand Canyon, a few hours from Las Vegas, NV.  This area is generally referred to as Grand Canyon West. The Skywalk is a Glass Bridge hanging suspended 70 feet over the rim of the Grand Canyon and it sits 4,000 feet above the Colorado River.  The Skywalk was opened in March of 2007 and allows visitors to walk beyond the rim via a clear glass walkway with views of the Canyon floor well below their feet.

Grand Canyon West Vistas are not as dramatic as the better-known South Rim, but it’s an amazing destination non-the less and convenient for visitors coming from Las Vegas for the day. Complete with its own airport, small lodge and canyon view restaurant, the West Rim receives daily flights from Vegas and other destinations.  Along with the Grand Canyon Skywalk, there are hummer tours, mule rides, pontoon boat rides, whitewater rafting and replicas of cowboy and native villages.  For those coming from Las Vegas with limited time, or those who have already seen the North Rim or South Rim this is a great destination to add to your trip. Read the guide below to find out more about the Grand Canyon Skywalk or check out our West Rim map to see all the nearby activities and attractions.

Scenic Flights, rafting trips, hummer rides, scenic tours, horseback rides and a dude ranch are some of the more popular options.

Outside of the Skywalk and Grand Canyon West are several other nearby attractions. There is a beautiful Joshua Tree forest on the way to Grand Canyon West and a working ranch where visitors can experience the old west. The nearby town of Meadview is located next to Lake Mead National Recreation Area, a great place for swimming, boating and fishing. For more information on nearby activities, check out our West Rim Destination page.

  • Guano Point- Guano Point got its name from the Bat Guano mining operation set-up to mine the guano from a cave on the other side of the Grand Canyon. An aerial tramway with a 7,500 cable was built to access the nitrogen rich guano which is used as a fertilizer. The mine is no longer in operation, but this is a great place for visitors interested in Grand Canyon History…the view’s not bad either.
