"The Grand Canyon Enlightened"

Grand Canyon Destinations

At over one million acres, and hundreds of miles in length, the Grand Canyon offers many different destinations for all types of visitors.  Beyond Grand Canyon National Park, the Navajo, Hualapai, and Havasupai Tribes, as well Grand Canyon Parashaunt all manage part of the Grand Canyon.

The South Rim is the most popular destination, and is known for the best view from the canyon rim.  The North Rim which is only open seasonally is know for its solitude and great hiking.  Grand Canyon's newest attraction on the West Rim is the location of the Grand Canyon Skywalk, and is run buy the Hualapai Tribe.  In the far western section of the Canyon off the North Rim is a remote section of the Canyon know as Toroweap, which is a great destination in the cooler months.  The inner canyon is where you find destinations like Havasu Falls and Phantom Ranch, as well as Grand Canyon Rafting and a lifetime of other adventures.

South Rim- The hub of Grand Canyon National Park, the South Rim and Grand Canyon village are known for some of the best Grand Canyon vistas.  This is also where most of the lodging options and amenities are located.

North Rim- The quiet side of the Canyon, the North Rim is totally difference experience.  Opened from mid-May until the first snow this is a great place to see the Grand Canyon without the hordes.

Grand Canyon West- Located outside of Grand Canyon National Park, the West Rim is located on the Hualapai Indian Reservation near Lake Mead.  This is the home of the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a glass bridge that stretches beyond the Canyon Rim.

Havasu Falls- The beautiful turquoise waterfalls of the Havasupai Tribe are located west of Grand Canyon Village near the town of Seligman, AZ.  Just remember you cant drive to Havasu Falls, so getting there requires a sense of adventure.

Phantom Ranch- The most popular place at the bottom of the Grand Canyon Phantom Ranch is actually a lodge that visitors hike or take a mule to.  Phantom Ranch is also used interchangeably with Bright Angel Campground, the Parks backcountry campsite only a few hundred yards away the lodge.

Colorado River- Rafters, hikers and fisherman alike all want to get to the Colorado River, but its not always easy.  It can days to hike to it, weeks to raft through it, and there is only 2 roads that end at the Colorado River in all of the Grand Canyons vast wilderness.

Marble Canyon- This isolated area is where Grand Canyon National Park begins.  It is also where Lees Ferry is located, and the jumping off point for multi-day rafting trips down the Grand.

Toroweap-  A little visited section of Grand Canyon National Park Toroweap (or Tuweap) is located in the far western Canyon, near Fredonia Arizona, and entails about 60 miles of dirt road driving to access.  Spring and Fall are the best time to visit this area due to its low elevation and hot weather.
